Blounts Disease and Lincoln.

So I think I've briefly mentioned that Lincoln has shown signs of bowing in his legs, and It was confirmed on Wednesday and then again on, Thursday, that it is incredibly pronounced. she mentioned that he could have a condition called Blounts Disease . I do have an unsuccessful video of Lincoln trying to run but the lighting is terrible.

So, at this point, a Doctor and a nurse have seen what the extent of my concerns are and have seen for themselves what it looks like when he runs, walks or stands still. they ordered X-ray basically of his legs and feet. let me tell you something, sitting in a radiology room, with a screaming 18 month old is not fun, and the whole time he is screaming, "Mommy, no!". I felt terrible, because, if this is Blounts Disease, that is only the beginning.

Basically, what happens is, when a child has Blounts disease, either too much weight is being put on the growth plate (which is not the case for Lincoln, he is only in the 75th percentile for Height and Weight, he is about 27 lbs and 33 inches tall, courtesy of his 18 Month well baby), but I was reading that in infants, it can happen when the child walks at an early age, which then causes a growth disorder of the tibia, and if left untreated, can end up like this or even worse. Lincoln is not at that point yet, thankfully.

They said the standard treatment for this is bracing, but sometimes it doesn't always work and then the next step is surgery, like what this person had done.

so I'm hoping and praying that this is not what it is and that he just has bowed legs, I don't want my baby to go through something like this, and that eventually one day he'll grow out of it or need special shoes. I guess we'll just have to wait until Tuesday.
